Practical Corrosion Control Measures for Elemental Sulfur Containing Environments
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper provides an overview of materials’ performance in well environments containing H2S and elemental sulphur (S). Based on this information the factors affecting the service life of materials used for well completion and surface facilities in highly sour environments are discussed and limitations on materials selection and chemical inhibition procedures are suggested.

Effect of Elemental Sulfur and Sulfide on the Corrosion Behavior of Cr-Mo Low Alloy Steel for Tubing and Tubular Components in Oil and Gas Industry
The chemical degradation of alloy components in sulfur-containing environments is a major concern in oil and gas production. This paper discusses the effect of elemental sulfur and its simplest anion, sulfide, on the corrosion of Cr-Mo alloy steel at pH 2 and 5 during 10, 20 and 30 h immersion in two different solutions. 4130 Cr-Mo alloy steel is widely used as tubing and tubular components in ...
متن کامل11398: Investigation of Elemental Sulfur Corrosion Mechanisms
Sour gas wells frequently co-produce elemental sulfur which can cause catastrophic corrosion of mild steel. As producing wells become increasingly sour, the incidence of sulfur corrosion will likely increase. Despite the severity of this problem, limited mechanistic information about this process exists in the literature. The objective of this study is investigation of the corrosion mechanism i...

Nickel in elemental form or alloyed with other metals or materials has made significant contribution to our present day society. Nickel and nickel alloys are the class of advanced material that are are identified as candidate materials for marine applications and vitally important to aerospace, automotive industries because of their ability to withstand a wide variety of severe operating condit...
متن کاملCharacterization of elemental and structural composition of corrosion scales and deposits formed in drinking water distribution systems.
Corrosion scales and deposits formed within drinking water distribution systems (DWDSs) have the potential to retain inorganic contaminants. The objective of this study was to characterize the elemental and structural composition of extracted pipe solids and hydraulically-mobile deposits originating from representative DWDSs. Goethite (alpha-FeOOH), magnetite (Fe(3)O(4)) and siderite (FeCO(3)) ...
متن کاملCorrosion Performance of Ceramaic Materials in High Temperature Sulfuric Acid Environments
The Sulfur-Iodide (SI) process has been investigated extensively as an alternate process to generate hydrogen through the thermo-chemical decomposition of water. The commercial viability of this process hinges on the durability and efficiency of heat exchangers/decomposers that operate at high temperatures under corrosive environments. In cooperation with the DOE and the University of Nevada, L...
